As a North Carolina nonprofit, we’re the first entirely non-profit location of Howdy’s, aiming to give back all proceeds to the IDD community. We knew we had the opportunity to make a difference, so that’s exactly what we did!
At our Howdy Homemade Ice Cream shop in The Triangle area, we hire employees with intellectual or developmental disabilities and challenge other businesses to be more inclusive with their operations too. Our goal is to ensure every employee and every customer feels comfortable and welcomed from the moment they walk through the door. Our location offers customers and employees many accommodations including special back-end processes and an adult changing station.
Though we knew we were making an impact with the location, we wanted to do even more. That’s why we created our unique ice cream membership program to help make our dream to give back to the IDD community, a reality.
We believe everyone has the power to reach their full potential. We framed our business model to help those who otherwise might not have the opportunity to reach theirs. We focus on training and mentoring individuals of all abilities with the confidence and skills to reach their goals. If we can be the model of what it takes to make a difference in the IDD community, it will have a ripple effect for other businesses to follow suit.
